Ask him for at least 10 references, and call at least 3 of these at random. Ask them about his punctuality, the quality of his work the neatness and finish. Did he adhere to the cost estimates? How did he handle questions? Would they recommend him to others?
Make sure that you get everything down in writing before you hire the contractor. Include the estimated finish date for the construction project, the kind of materials that you need to be used, as well as the payment schedule.
